“Dr Fred R. Klenner* has reported successfully treating black widow spider bites and bites of highland moccasins and rattlesnakes with 4 000 mg of vitamin C given every few hours around the clock with small amounts of calcium gluconate.
Calcium appears to both increase the value of vitamin C and to decrease the sensitivity to pain. Although his patients were extremely ill, they made complete recoveries, some in as short a time as 38 hours after being bitten.”
“A woman wrote me that while weeding ivy she had been bitten simultaneously on the arm and leg by black widow spiders. At the time she was taking vitamin C because of a sore throat, which “fortunately had not improved”. The bites resulted in little more than a slight swelling, whereas a black widow bite on the foot of an acquaintance had caused his leg to be excrutiatingly painful and swollen to the hip for a month or more.
“Many persons are extremely allergic to bites of almost every variety, and more such persons die each year from bee stings than from bites of poisonous insects. Individuals with known allergies of this type should carry the antistress formula or 500 mg tablets of vitamin C with them, and if they are stung, take large amounts immediately and frequently thereafter.
“Calcium and huge quantities of vitamin C help to alleviate poison oak, poison ivy, and any allergy which causes a skin manifestation.
“Probably the poison from all forms of stings or bites, whether from Portuguese men of war, sting rays, scorpions, or from other animals or insects could be detoxified if sufficient vitamin C were taken.
“Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), however, should be immediately increased; and local applications of vitamin E or vitamin E ointment often reduces pain. When life is at stake, vitamin C and pantothenic acid should be given by injection.

Improve Effectiveness of Vitamin C
As noted above in her book, Adelle Davis mentions that calcium appears to both increase the value of vitamin C and decrease the sensitivity to pain. Calcium gluconate is the best painkiller around. Large enough doses will “switch off” almost any pain.

Calcium and Magnesium Need Vitamin C: As both calcium and magnesium are alkaline, they need some kind of acid before they can be absorbed. Failing to have this combination can lead to increased deficiencies of calcium and/or magnesium or the calcium depositing in joints (arthritis) or kidneys (stones). You can use apple cider vinegar too but vitamin C is usually a more practical and better-tasting solution.
